October is here and that means we are rehanging our changing exhibit galleries with new and exciting exhibitions. First off the block is Wildlife of the American West: Works on the Paper from the Original Collection. Many people may not remember that the Museum used to exist on the Jackson Town Square (in the space currently occupied by Moo’s Ice Cream and the Wilcox Gallery, for readers who know Jackson).
Many people might also not remember that the original name of the Museum was the Wildlife of the American West Art Museum or that it focused primarily on the charismatic creatures that call this region home. When the Museum moved to its current facility in 1994, it changed its name to the National Museum of Wildlife Art. This exhibit looks back at some of the great works on paper the Museum acquired during its seven years on the Town Square.

One of the pictures that has taken more time to finish - and this is only a crop from it. Lady of the lake is an illustration of a Grass snake - Natrix natrix astreptophora - done with watercolour, pencil, markers, prismacolors and ink.

Today’s owl.
I was SUPPOSED to spend the day painting this, but got distracted by gardening and rabbit sorting. So this quicker one will have to suffice :)

Turdus merula. A male blackbird. Done based on many studies and photos. I just love when blackbirds are all busy looking for food and when you interrupt them they just stare at you for a split second before they flee.

Some examples of my illustrated products up for sale soon, inc: Small posters, keyrings, postcards, mugs and more

Alcedo atthis, Kingfisher. I’m very happy with this drawing, and probably it marked a new “style” in my way of painting birds.
Done with watercolour, coloured pencils, markers and ink. And graphite. Going to be used for a bird guide.
