These beetles make me miss drawing for my subjects back in Newcastle
even if most of them were done in the wee hours of the morning.As much as I would want to be extra productive, I can only do so much paintings. But hey, I’m doing my best!
Lately I’ve been feeling so-so (adj. (1) not passionate; (2) at a loss for daily fulfillment or productivity), so I resolve to paint whenever I can, perhaps sometimes at the cost of my academic responsibilities. I can’t help but thinking who I would have been as an artist if I didn’t choose to be a diligent student. -

Dip Pen Insects, late 2011
Experimentation, observational drawing of locust carapaces, a cicada and stag beetle. Frustrating to begin with but eventually was starting to get the hang of it!
