“Transient Loner”
Orcinus orca
Watercolor on Aquabord, 5” x 7”Last month I went on a whale watch in the San Juan Islands, and we spent quite awhile following a couple of transient orcas, a male and a female. The male had this quirky, wobbled dorsal that really just added a lot of character, so I had to paint him! It was also a great chance to try out the Aquabord, and I think I just fell in love with it.
I’m also willing to sell this original for $75. If anyone is interested, feel free to drop me a line!

It’s been a very, very busy couple of months, and in an effort to produce at least something in the little time I could find, I decided to go back to it and ended up very slowly repainting the whole thing.

Yay! My giant orca ecotypes poster arrived today from NOAA. Got a little creased on its journey but it’s still the greatest poster ever. Because it’s covered in orcas.

Curiosity || Acrylic on canvas (16 x 16) || April 2012
It felt like ages since I’d painted orcas. I wish I had time to paint them every day.
