“Transient Loner”Orcinus orca Watercolor on Aquabord, 5” x 7”
Last month I went on a whale watch in the San Juan Islands, and we spent quite awhile following a couple of transient orcas, a male and a female. The male had this quirky, wobbled dorsal that really just added a lot of character, so I had to paint him! It was also a great chance to try out the Aquabord, and I think I just fell in love with it.
I’m also willing to sell this original for $75. If anyone is interested, feel free to drop me a line!

There are also more details and a close up photos on my blog. I started this over a year ago and had all but abandoned it. It’s been a very, very busy couple of months, and in an effort to produce at least something in the little time I could find, I decided to go back to it and ended up very slowly repainting the whole thing.(Please don’t remove my links if you reblog! Thank you!)

Yay! My giant orca ecotypes poster arrived today from NOAA. Got a little creased on its journey but it’s still the greatest poster ever. Because it’s covered in orcas.

It felt like ages since I’d painted orcas. I wish I had time to paint them every day.
