One in a series of pen and ink illustrations showing the steps of a subtotal colectomy. I need to get a better scan. Attending this surgery taught me more than I ever wanted to know about the colon. In this step, a portion has been removed, and a little corner is being cut where one open end will be reconnected with the other. Those pouchy things are called haustra, which is an anatomical term I always kind of liked.
